Younger Matt Builds a Walnut Hall Table

Five years ago I made an attempt to start making woodworking videos by recording myself building a walnut hall table which was a wedding gift for our friends.  I didn’t think the video was very good (it wasn’t) so I never posted it.  I tried making videos a couple more times before I finally started for good.

  1. Did you mill the wood for this table yourself? It was fun seeing the yard as it was then before all the big piles of wood moved in. Also, loved your “Price is Right” crew shirt. You’ve come a long way.

    1. Thanks! I didn’t mill that walnut myself. I bought it wet from a mill and dried it. My first time working with walnut. It’s very strange seeing things as they were. The yard looks a lot different without the shed there.

  2. Great work for a young guy, better then me for sure. I watched you straight line your boards using a jig on your table saw. I noticed 1 larger board that runs along the fence and a smaller board with clamps to hold down the board you’re cutting. That top hold down board is that glued on or can you move it to each size board, if so how did you hold that top board on the bottom board?
