Building a Walnut Coffee Table – Breadboard and Subtop Joinery (Part 1)

In this series of videos, I’m going to take you through the process as I build this walnut coffee table.  The table is all solid wood construction with an open shelf and 2 drawer design.  It features curves on all 4 sides which carry through both the horizontal and vertical dividers and the drawer fronts.  The horizontal dividers join to the legs though their bread boards – the subtop is dovetailed and the shelf is tenoned into the legs.

In this first video, I’ll layout and mill the rough lumber, create the shelf and subtop, and dovetail the subtop into the legs.

  1. Hey Matt, i’m a big fan of your dovetail coffee table made of walnut, i’m in Australia and for my woodwork subject i really want to make a similar table to yours and was wondering if you could sell me the plans like some of your other projects, i am planning to change it slightly with some personal effects in it but would love to have your inspiration and creativity behind my project.
