After being gone for a week and another week back with a bit of a slow start, I’m back at it. Highlights this week are making progress on the sideboard by adding the vertical dividers and cutting the panels. I also cut the white oak log that I showed in my last update.

Planter Boxes by Brian

I made these planter boxes for my wife to dress up those cheep plastic planters you get at the garden center. The boxes are made from redwood with simple dado and grove joints. I inherited the redwood boards from my dad who was liquidating all his lumber as he prepares for a retired life in an RV (not a lot of room for lumber storage in the 5th wheel). The legs are just made out of pressure treated lumber from the home center. Obviously the legs are painted and the redwood is finished with an outdoor oil poly mostly for the gloss, not because the redwood needed protection. I went ahead and batched these out over the course of a few weekends and made an extra one to give to my sister for a housewarming gift.

Book Shelf by Adam

I am 15 years old and I am from Hungary. This is my last project, a bookshelf for my sister. This is made of pine and the top of it is walnut. The pine was an old window which we changed and we milled up the walnut with my dad.

Office Boxes by Josh

I made a couple of small boxes for my office after someone told me I could use a bit more artwork. The first one I made is made from live edge maple that I milled from a tree my friend cut down. I built a miter key jig and put in walnut keys from a piece of my dad’s firewood. The bottom is a piece of Zebrawood scrap I had. It was more of an experiment because I’ve never used live edge before and didn’t know what to do with the corner that sticks up. A colleague said it reminded him of M.C. Escher’s never ending staircase, which I took as a compliment.

The second is a box I made to hold my keys, wallet, and pen while I’m sitting at my desk. It was made from a piece of walnut that the previous owner of our home had used as a make shift shelf (which I couldn’t believe). I pulled the nails out and hid the holes behind a butterfly key, so that I could practice that. The maple accents are made from the scrap from the maple box I mentioned above.

Crib by Don

Here’s a few pictures of the crib I made for my latest grand daughter. Copying is the best form of flattery, I used your design from your crib and changed it a bit. The frame is made from pecan and the spindles are of maple.
