I’ve been away for a bit due to childcare issues but I have been moving the sideboard project forward over the past few weeks.

Viewer Projects

Maloof-inspired Rocker by Ron

I’ve been wanting to do one of theses for about 20 years.  It is cherry with ash accents.  It is based on Hal Taylor’s plans.  His book and videos make the entire build easy to understand; I would highly recommend them.

Mailbox cabinet by Steve

Attached are pictures of the first project I designed on my own.  It is a mailbox cabinet; larger packages go in the bottom basket and ingoing/outgoing mail in the top cabinet.
Decided to make the main body and cabinet out of cherry after viewing your secretary desk videos.  Also the door panel is made from maple, red oak, sapele, and cherry.  It was finished with two coats of natural danish oil and two coats of general finishes exterior 450 for a top coat.

Crib by Zak

Its can be broken down and re-assembled in about 15 minutes using 20 bolts into brass threaded inserts!  Made from Maple.  (Stained per request of the friend I made it for)

Table by Shawn

Here are some pictures of the table that I completed approximately 5 months ago. This was a commissioned job that I honestly wanted to run from! The project took me many months of hard work and had me walking on egg shells the whole time. Nonetheless, it turned out very breathtaking! I have been blessed for I was invited to a enjoy not one, but two wonderful dinners at the table that I built. I have to say that it even mesmerizes me when I sit at it’s inviting edge.
It is nearly 7 feet in diameter and weighs in at close to 500 lbs.. Made from solid Cypress with ebony draw pegs and pins. The black circle on the top is epoxy resin. The live edge was pieced together using three long boards, each kept in sequence. The legs are 10″ × 10″ timbers, rough shaped with power tools and finished with hand tools (Lots of hand tool work!). No metal fasteners of any kind was used in this build.
I milled the base parts in my 20 x 20 shop with some challenges, but the top was just not going to work or fit in there reasonably. Fortunately a friend of mine has a huge shop and offered me the space to mill and assemble the large top. I drove for over 40 miles a day, 7 days a week, for weeks on end to assemble the top, it was quite a challenge! Mainly because of my rookie skills and the tedious glue ups that had to be done in planned individual sections.
I finally ended up bringing the full table to my livingroom to complete the final finish on the table top itself. This was done so my friend could have his much needed shop space back and I could cut time and vehicle expenses. Many thanks go to Matt at Old Goat Custom Woods for being patient with me and ever so willing to lend me the much needed space to take on such a huge project!
