Matt’s Weekly Shop Update – Jan 3, 2017

I spent a decent amount of time in the shop this week making progress on the farmhouse table benches.  I started to get the finish applied to the bench tops and I milled all of the stock for the base.  On New Years Day, I milled up a box elder crotch which allowed me to try out the hand crank winch that I mounted to the saw.

Desk and Chair by Ivan

A big 100 year old ash tree fell in my garden a few years ago, I needed a desk for my new computer so I decided to borrow my dads chainsaw and power hand planer and have a go to try and make myself a big live edge one, I enjoyed it so much I made a matching wood/leather swivel chair from the same tree and using the base off an old broken antique one from around 1940.

Dining Table by Dan

I’m sending you a link to my project that I made for one of my best friends and his new wife for the house they just bought together. I made them a trestle style dining room table out of Red Oak I had cut down from my back yard when my wife and I moved into our new house a year and a half ago. It’s been an adventure to see the project from tree to delivery but it’s been so much fun.

The Vescio Table

Nightstand by Adam

The Nightstand is made from Walnut, Curly maple, and soft maple for the legs, it is made with mortise and tenon joinery and the drawer front is half blind dovetails. The finish is a spray on lacquer.  I chose Maple and Walnut because I love the contrasting colors and how they complement each other.

Keepsake Box by James

PurpleHeart with curly maple raised panel top incorporated. And a lift out tray.  It is built with through dovetail joinery for the box and finger joints for the curly maple tray.
