Card Catalog Coffee Table by Jacob

I made a coffee table out of an old library card catalog rack that my mom was able to snag from the elementary school where she works when they were renovating the library.  I rebuilt the drawer interiors and added legs and a table top, all made from some very old reclaimed pallet wood that I milled (first project with my new planer!).  I’m unsure of the species of the pallet boards because of some unique figuring and dark black streaks caused from an iron oxide phenolic reaction due to the pallet nails and brackets.  I think it may be mahogany, but have had others suggest that it might be jatoba, blackwood or some kind of oak.

Barnwood Projects by Mark

I tear down old barns here in East Tennessee where MOONSHINE was prevalent many decades ago. THE BARNS THAT THE SHINERS HELD THEIR CACHE OF SHINE IN, IS THE VERY WOOD I use! I have found pounds of lead and pumpkin balls, and nails in this wood. I’m very careful to use a detector on the wood before use. Because the Revenuers would shoot through the barn to destroy their spirits.

Medicine Cabinet made from White Oak, Poplar and Red Oak. Mortised hinged. The front is an old sash window with hand blown glass. Second is a wall mount secretary made from heart pine and poplar and the back is white Oak. The last piece is hand planed White Oak Desk with old closet flanges and cast iron legs, 2 drawers made of heart pine. All the wood came from multiple barns that I took down.
