Matt’s Weekly Shop Update – Dec 20, 2016

What an amazing week with Max’s birth but almost as amazingly, the weather has warmed up considerably allowing me to get the bandsaw mill aligned.

7 Drawer Dresser by Ryan

A walnut dresser for our son, Vincent.  I made it from wood harvested in Missouri that was brought to Colorado.  I got it on Craigslist.  I tried to make it with mostly hand-tools, but did revert to the bandsaw and tablesaw a few times.  Most of the joinery is cut by hand, including loads of dovetails for the case and drawers.  The drawer pulls are walnut glued to aspen (which was growing in our backyard).  I milled up the aspen and dried it in my garage.

The design is modeled after the 7-drawer dresser that Doucette and Wolfe a few years ago

Wedding Gift Box by Matt

I made this box out of walnut, spalted poplar, and koa. I used box joints for the main carcass but mitered the top fingers of the lid. The handles are through mortised, and the removable tray has simple dovetails but provides a nice piston fit.

LED Log Lamp by Andreas

Here is my LED Log Lamp project. I first planned on using burled Birch but it did not quite work out so I ended up using Black Alder. It was my first time milling up my own lumber.

I am a 21-year-old woodworker from Estonia

The farmhouse table project starts in just a few weeks!

  1. Congrats to you and the rest of the family to the new addition to the Cremona family,
An idea for temporary hold downs for the band saw instead of the bolts get a cpl cantilever clamps which are fully adjustable and clamp down just by a flip of the handle. This would be a little quicker then using the ratchet.
