Matt’s Weekly Shop Update – April 3, 2017

Made a bunch of progress on the first river waterfall table. I cut the waterfall joint and built a steel base for it. The other table will get it’s resin river this week once I decide on a final direction for the pigment.

Live Edge End Table by Ronald

I made this live edge end table for a charity auction to fund a local food pantry.  It is ambrosia maple from a tree I cut in my back yard three years ago.  It was infested with carpenter ants, and had to be taken down.  I milled the tree with an Alaskan chainsaw mill, which took the better part of a summer.  It has cherry accents.  I’m glad the tree can feed the hungry.  It’s the first piece I’ve ever sold.  Everything else I’ve built for family.  It was gratifying to watch the auction price rise.

Coffee Table by Brian

The live-edge walnut coffee table (college graduation/Christmas present) for our son is done. The custom order steel legs were from Symmetry Hardware in Oregon. The West Systems clear epoxy lets you see the wood fibers down in the splits in the walnut slab. I also used it to seal and stabilize the bark. The finish is General Finishes Arm R Seal, semi gloss…. maybe a bit too shiny for me, but my son loves it…. And all of the instructional videos on how to do this including leveling the slab and installing the maple bow ties were provided by Matt Cremona!

Bassinet by Petr

All solid ash, Osmo finish, and ready to be disassembled for easy storage.

Changing Table by Phil

I saw the videos, used the plans and built my daughter a changing table! This was the first time I’ve ever made dovetail and I loved he while process. There is definitely a learning curve but by the time I got to my last drawer, I felt we they were really coming together (yes, pun intended). It’s made from walnut and ash and looks stunning. Our daughter was born in Nov and it was finished just in time for her. My wife and I are excited that she will be able to use it as a dresser for many years!

  1. Hi Matt,

Do you sell your slabs? If so, do you have any crosscut slabs available? If not, where would you recommend me finding a 2-3′ diameter crosscut slab?
