My Chainsaw Gear – Ask Matt #6

January 25, 2015

This time I share what I have in my chainsaw gear collection.  I show my two primary saws, what I keep in my chainsaw box, and my chainsaw mill.

This is the sixth episode of my Ask Matt series where I answer broader topic questions.  If you have an idea for a topic for a future episode, please let me know.

Helpful tips! I have noted some important tips and apply this tips for my new job. Do you write some tips about safety tips and how to use the chainsaw properly? Thanks for sharing it with us!

    Some good info. Ty.
I recently bought a new Stihl 42cc/3hp 18″ chainsaw. So far it has been brilliant at felling trees on my block in preparation for bushfire season. I’d like to try milling up some of the trees into slabs or my own lumber. Thankfully none of the tree logs are much bigger than the 18″ bar can work with. However, I realise that with the addition of a chainsaw mill, the bar needs to be longer than the max cut.
What size bar do you think I could comfortably go up to with my current saw.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Thanks for the tips. I once got the bar of a rental chainsaw pinched bucking an alder. Sure would have been nice to have some wedges with me!

    • Oh yeah, those things are so incredibly handy!
